We are incorporating elements of Día de los Muertos into our wedding and envision a colorful, joy-filled celebration with rich deep jewel tones such as emerald, sapphire, ruby and amethyst, along with earthy browns, marigold tones and classic black. If you’d like, you’re welcome to weave these colors into your look, but most importantly, wear whatever makes you feel your best.

Traditional Día de los Muertos ofrenda with marigolds, candles, and photographs
Day of the Dead

Día de los Muertos

Día de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, is a beautiful Mexican tradition that honors and celebrates the lives of loved ones who have passed. It is believed that on this night the veil between worlds grows thin, allowing the spirits of loved ones to return and join us once more.

As part of our celebration, we will have an ofrenda adorned with photographs, mementos, and favorite foods to guide them home and surround them with the things they love.

All guests are welcome to add something in honor of a loved one so that their spirit may celebrate with us.

Offering ideas:

  • A copy of a photograph
  • A small keepsake or memento
  • A favorite treat or drink they loved in life
  • Any other token of love and remembrance that feels meaningful to you

Any items you would like returned can be collected after the wedding or the following morning, and we will keep them safe for you.

About Los Alamos

Los Alamos is a small, one-street town in Santa Barbara wine country with Old West and rancho roots. Founded in 1876 as a stagecoach stop, it still has its historic false-front buildings from the frontier days. The surrounding hills were once part of Spanish land grants, and local lore ties the area to the legend of Zorro, inspired by real-life outlaw Joaquín Murrieta (who happens to be one of Brittany’s ancestors). Today, those old buildings are home to great restaurants, wine bars, and antique shops, giving the town a mix of history and laid-back charm.
